Dementia Awareness 2017
We have marked Dementia Awareness Week Scotland 2017 with the opening of our special new facility.
The Reminiscence Room has been created by our manager, Karen Ewen, and the rest of our team as an additional social space to be enjoyed by residents and visitors.
The room features encompasses traditional features such as a fireplace with bellows, a bassinette with doll and traditional furniture, all with the aim of sparking memories for users.
It has been opened to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week Scotland which runs from May 29th until June 4th and aims to raise awareness of the condition which currently affects some 90,000 people in Scotland.
Karen Ewen said: “Trial sessions have already proved to be very beneficial for people trying out the new room and residents who have difficulty communicating have been able to express emotions through use of the facility.”
Director of Care (Aberdeenshire) Kristin Jackson-Brown added: “The creation of this important new room further underlines our ethos of a first-class, ‘home-from-home’ setting for the delivery of care of the very highest standard, and I am sure that it will be enjoyed by many residents and visitors.”
