Among the star guests were the service dogs Yogi and Cindy Bear, who stole hearts with their wagging tails and friendly demeanour. Yogi, a certified service dog, has an impressive track record, having participated in rescue missions where he saved lives. Residents were thrilled to meet these canine heroes and learn about their important work.

Adding to the excitement were hatching chicks and upcoming lamb visits scheduled for April 18th, 2024. The anticipation of new life filled the air as residents eagerly awaited the arrival of these adorable additions to the care home.

National Pet Day is an annual event celebrated on April 11th, highlighting the benefits of pet companionship for individuals of all ages. Research shared by Pets for the Elderly highlights the ways in which pets can enhance the lives of seniors, not only do they promote physical fitness through activities like walking and playing, but they also serve as companions, reducing stress and loneliness.

"Pets bring so much joy and comfort to our residents," said Donna, Activities Coordinator at Deeside Care Home. "We've witnessed firsthand the positive impact that interacting with animals can have on their wellbeing. National Pet Day provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the special bond between humans and animals."

Studies have shown that pet ownership among older adults can lead to decreased blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as increased opportunities for socialisation. For many residents at Deeside Care Home, these furry and feathery visitors offer not only companionship but also a sense of purpose and connection to the world around them.

As the celebrations continue at Deeside Care Home, residents eagerly await the arrival of the hatching chicks and upcoming lamb visits, knowing that each interaction with these beloved animals brings moments of joy.
